Modulate raises $25M for its voice models and analysis suite

Modulate, a Boston-based voice intelligence startup, has raised $25 million in new funding to expand its platform. The company utilizes an array of small models to offer enterprises transcription, emotional analysis, deepfake and AI music detection, and policy enforcement for voice agents in regulated industries. The funding follows a growing trend among investors to back companies working to make AI voices sound more human. It also positions Modulate against competitors attempting to detect intent behind human conversation and those protecting companies from the rising threat of voice-cloning deepfakes. The round was led by Future Ventures, with participation from Hyperplane and Lakestar. According to PitchBook, the startup had previously raised $41 million at a $170 million valuation prior to this round. Founded in 2017 by MIT physics alumni Mike Pappas and Carter Huffman, Modulate has evolved from providing voice modulation for gaming to focusing on voice-based moderation and detecting AI-generated audio.
