Qualcomm launches two new smartphone chips with emphasis on AI

Qualcomm has announced two flagship smartphone processors, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, with a primary focus on facilitating advanced AI-driven features. At its annual Snapdragon Summit, the company highlighted that these chips include new sensing hubs capable of running small models with up to 200 million parameters locally, enabling features like personal voice scribes and automated task suggestions. The high-end Extreme version is capable of running a 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts (MoE) model locally, significantly boosting on-device processing power. Furthermore, the chips provide pixel-level camera control, stabilization, and support for 8K 60fps video recording, alongside the new Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec. Motorola has already announced that its upcoming Motorola Signature 27 smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, with general availability expected later this year.
