ChatGPT Introduces College Planning Tools for Teens

OpenAI is set to introduce a significant new feature to its ChatGPT platform, specifically targeting high school students navigating the complex college application process. The company announced the upcoming "College Planner" tools, which will be integrated into "ChatGPT for Teens," a specialized mode launched in August with built-in safeguards and break reminders. The "College Planner" is designed to act as a comprehensive assistant for prospective college students. According to OpenAI, this feature will consolidate "application requirements, deadlines, tasks, and financial-aid steps for schools on a student's list in one plan." This centralization aims to simplify what is often a fragmented and overwhelming process. Students applying to multiple institutions will find the tool particularly useful, as it allows them to "return to it to update their progress, use the timeline to plan ahead and see what's left to do." Beyond organizational capabilities, the new feature will also leverage ChatGPT's conversational AI, enabling students to "ask ChatGPT questions along the way, from what a requirement means to how to get started." This interactive element promises to provide on-demand clarification and guidance. The introduction of the College Planner underscores OpenAI's commitment to expanding ChatGPT's utility beyond general knowledge and creative tasks, moving into practical, life-stage specific applications. The new College Planner feature is expected to arrive "soon," offering a valuable resource for teens preparing for higher education.
