Rabbit’s new AI agent doesn’t need an R1 to run

Rabbit is rolling out a standalone AI agent, OS3, which no longer requires the company's R1 hardware to function. The startup describes OS3 as an "agentic operating system" that runs in the cloud while operating locally across Windows, Mac, and Linux devices. Users can connect up to five devices to a single account and integrate their preferred AI models. OS3 is designed to automatically determine the necessary files, apps, and models required to complete specific tasks. Access is available through a dedicated desktop site, paired messaging apps like Telegram or iMessage, and the original R1 device. While founder Jesse Lyu confirmed that Rabbit has ceased manufacturing R1 devices, the company is not abandoning hardware entirely. It is currently developing a new "cyberdeck" device that will run OS3 upon its launch in the coming months. Rabbit claims that OS3 does not sell or copy user data, though it notes that chat history and memories will remain on its servers.
