Atlassian CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes on AI and the Future of SaaS

All of Atlassian's products are expressions of a single core platform. The discussion addressed the so-called "SaaSpocalypse"—the theory that AI might eventually build these tools automatically, potentially destroying the SaaS category, or that AI tools could read across various systems, making a migration to a single platform like Atlassian less enticing. Cannon-Brookes pushed back against these notions, arguing that AI is actually increasing the usage of Atlassian's tools. He also noted that AI has changed Atlassian internally; the company underwent a round of layoffs earlier this year because Cannon-Brookes felt the organization required a different "mix of skills" to effectively run a software company in the current AI landscape.
