Roland is getting into generative AI music with Melody Flip

Roland is making its foray into generative AI music with the introduction of Melody Flip, a new tool that, while not offering the "push button; get song" simplicity of platforms like Suno, marks a significant step for the company. Available as a plug-in for your digital audio workstation (DAW), Melody Flip provides users with approximately 250 "Palettes." These Palettes are essentially themed collections of musical ideas, meticulously sorted by genre. Users have the flexibility to either start from scratch, requesting the tool to generate any combination of melody, chord progression, bassline, or drums, or to feed it a reference track and have it build upon the melodic ideas present in that track. A key distinction of Melody Flip from competitors like Suno or Udio is its focus: it doesn't produce fully polished songs complete with vocals and full arrangements. Instead, it offers a more modular approach, providing the foundational musical elements for creators to build upon.
